I loved Joe’s thoughts in this post. While you do have to admit that Salt Lake doesn’t have the night life that attracts many people, that should not be the only criteria that needs to be met to make a place exciting. I personally feel that Utah has everything to offer except the nightlife, but if that’s your highest weighted preference, than it’s understandable why SLC might not be very exciting to you. Even as a lifelong Utahn, I can admit that Utah can be a bit of a boring place in February if you don’t ski or snowboard. However, from a marketing perspective, I feel like Salt Lake, and Utah for that matter, has a very specific and strategic branding built specifically for the many people that do love it here. No, it’s not an LA or Chicago or Miami, but I don’t think it’s supposed to be or should be. It’s kind of like a much needed white space filled in the “places to live” industry. I think Utah almost perfectly satisfies the “job to be done” for the sizeable chunk of the market that does love it here. When I first came to BYU, I had no idea what I was doing. I felt lost, alone, and broken and wasn't sure what to do about it. Then, I found new purpose and a home in the BYU Marketing program. Fast forward three years and I couldn't be more grateful for my time here and the wonderful friends and memories made along the way. The BYU Marketing program has had such a positive, dramatic impact on my life and I will carry it with me forever. Feeling very grateful and honored to announce that I've officially accepted a full time offer with NielsenIQ as a commercial analyst on their BASES innovation team! Following my graduation from the BYU marketing program in April, I will be relocating to Cincinnati, Ohio to truly begin my career and pursue my goals in marketing insights and analytics.I'm extremely grateful for the amazing education that I've received from BYU in preparing me for my chosen career field in all of the best ways possible. My education here has truly been something that I've enjoyed every single day and has helped me get to where I want to be.
