About the UCD Veterinary Hospital
The UCD Veterinary Hospital (UCDVH) is located within the Veterinary Sciences Centre in the School of Veterinary Medicine on UCD’s Belfield Campus. The UCDVH offers services for both small and large animals. Currently, the major animal species seen at the UCDVH are dogs, cats, horses, cattle and sheep, with smaller numbers of exotic and zoo animals.
UCDVH Services
The Hospital provides a primary and referral consultation resource to the public and veterinary profession. We are open for consultations (by appointment) each weekday, and we provide 24-hour hospital care for all of our patients. Our services are broadly categorised into Small Animal Medicine and Surgery, Large Animal Surgery, a Farm Animal Clinic, Herd Health and Equine Medicine. Within each area, specific disciplines are represented (soft tissue surgery, dermatology, endocrinology etc).

Our Services
Anaesthesia
Our Anaesthesia Team provides sedation, general and regional anaesthesia and pain management for animals, with each anaesthetic protocol individually tailored to your pet’s needs.
Blood Donor Clinic
Accidents, surgery and immune-mediated disease are some of the more common reasons that dogs need life saving blood transfusions - giving a matched blood transfusion minimises the risk of an adverse reaction.
Diagnostic Imaging
We provide a full range of services for internal patients and a variety of services for external cases referred to the UCDVH. Our equipment is state of the art, veterinary dedicated and operated by our expert team.
Diagnostic Laboratories
We provide a rapid in-house service for our clinicians, whilst also providing a fast & highly accurate diagnostic service to veterinary practitioners around Ireland.
Equine Services
We provide a full range of Equine Services, including Equine Medicine and Surgery, Equine Dentistry, Sports Medicineand an Equine Field Service.
Farm Animal Services
Our Farm Animal Team specialises in bovine and small ruminant health management, animal reproduction, epidemiology, veterinary public health, reproductive biology and applied animal nutrition.
Rehabilitation & Physiotherapy
We provide Rehabilitation & Physiotherapy services for small animals and equine patients, with individual plans to facilitate a faster and safer return to health and mobility.
Reproduction
UCDVH offers the only specialist led equine reproduction service in Ireland, with a range of advanced reproduction techniques available. Our Farm Animal Team also offer a number of fertility services.
Small Animal Medicine
Our Small Animal Medicine services include Endocrinology, Cardiology, Urology, Dermatology, Neurology, Oncology, Enterology, Endoscopy, Iodine Therapy & Laser Ablation.
Small Animal Surgery
We provide a range of surgical services - Orthopaedic Surgery, Soft Tissue Surgery, Surgical Neurology, Surgical Oncology, Reconstructive Surgery, Wound Management & Reproductive Surgery.
Minimally Invasive Procedures at the UCDVH
A Tracheal Stent for Coco
Coco was referred to the UCD Veterinary Hospital for a minimally invasive procedure - a stent placement to keep her trachea open and prevent episodes of respiratory distress. Minimally invasive techniques offer a pain free and safe method for interventions in natural organ cavities.
