My experiences with the Animal Hospital have been overwhelmingly positive. The vets here did everything they could to help when my dog was ill and eventually, when it became clear that she would not recover, they assisted compassionately with having her euthanised.From a business perspective, they were also very understanding in relation to expenses for cremation services, extending credit and facilitating payment in installments.I've dealt with other vets in the past and have found that, with some, there are very obvious conflicts of interest (e.g. a vet has told me, incorrectly, in the past that my dog was obese and followed this with the hard-sell for Hills' Science Plan food @ €60 a bag; this in my view is akin to a doctor making fraudulent diagnoses in order to sell medicines, a practice that would obviously not be legal). In dealing with the Animal Hospital and the vets working there, I never experienced this, only that the best interests of the animal were of primary concern.I have since picked up another dog (and will most likely continue to do so in the future) and, as long as I live in the greater Dublin area, I would not take him anywhere else. I've been bringing my pets for a number if years to the animal hospital. We have always been treated very well but we have recently had to say goodbye to our sweet whippet Bonnie who got the best of care and attention here in her final days. On top of that, as bereaved owners, we received a lovely phone call followed by a beautiful letter and poem. An animal hospital where the patient and its owner are...- not just "next" but called in by name- not seen as "numbers" but treated as individuals- not looked at as a "source of money coming in" but as in need of treatment and advice.It's a place where the vet is giving his/her everything: slipping into the role of being a friend and giving you not only medical advice but also sharing his/her thoughts from a friend's point of view. And that's what really counts - especially in situations that are not "annual checkups" but emergencies! Thanks to the whole staff of The Animal Hospital and a special "woof woof" from Rapsy and Missy to Paul!PS to readers: It is always hard to be loosing a dear pet and/or spending a lot of money, trying to save it. I would not recommend this veterinary practice. I had a 13year old lab which I had always taken to this vet. In the last year of her life, she took a turn for the worst. She had the onset of kidney disease in August 2013 (determined by a blood profile) and I was told it was pretty bad. In October, she took a turn. She had a lump under her armpit which would not go away. More bloods were taken where I was told it wasn't linked to her kidney disease and that the kidney disease itself was not that bad (after being told in August that it was bad!). The vet could not find out what was wrong with her but believed she may have injured her leg and that she was arthritic which made the bump worse.It wasn't the fact that they didn't know what was wrong with her, but the manor in which I was charged for EVERY vet visit (at times 2-3 appointments a week). The pain medication prescribed by the vet just didn't agree with her (which isn't their fault either) so I had to bring her back a couple of times to try some different pain tablets. It was heart-breaking to see her get sick after taking her pain tablets and not eat. After three weeks of trying different things, my poor dog was getting worse so I made the hardest decision of my life to have her put to sleep. I rang The Animal Hospital to discuss the decision and was told that the vet was busy (it was a Sat and they're open on a half day) and that the vet will call me back. An hour or so went by and we called again. Again, we were told that the vet will only address an emergency. I told her this is an emergency, that my dog was really suffering (she couldn't stand or lift her head) and that I couldn't bear to see her go through any more pain. I was told that the vet will make it a priority to call me back. We rang again 2 hours later where the vet told us that she cannot call out to put my dog to sleep as she had other engagements. We spent a couple of hours trying to get a vet that could and eventually came across a lovely vet who kindly and very gently put her to sleep (I will write a review about him too).Between all the previous visits and selling me all of the different types of painkillers/charging for injections etc, I spent about €600 on my dog in that month alone. It would have been nice for them to offer money off a few appointments where I was down to them 2/3 times a week. It also would have been nice for the Vet to care enough to put her to sleep (which only takes a few minutes) or to arrange someone to call out as we were very distraught and exhausted at the time. I know the Animal Hospital is a business but some level of compassion for my dog and my family would have been greatly appreciated at the time. She passed away in November so this review was not written out of blame or sorrow, although I do still miss her terribly. Read Less
